The Ogden… More than Just a Concert Hall.
No matter your musical preference, or opinion, personally Simple Plan is amazing. My middle school years were full of lonely, friendless nights and listening to the two albums they produced, and the many more random collections of their music I came to own over time, helped me through so much. They have made the biggest impact on my life today, and I do not feel that I would be the same person if it weren’t for “No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls”, “Still Not Getting Any…” and especially “A Big Package for You”.
My first concert that I spent my own money on the ticket, procured my own ride, and spent my own money on merchandise was the Simple Plan concert at the Ogden, in Denver, Colorado, on October 23rd 2005. One of the greatest experiences of my life. The opening acts were, in order, Plain White T’s, Paramore, and Straylight Run. I spent the evening with Kate Bailey, and Adrianna Harris. I still remember almost every song they played, I even remember what David Desrosiers wore (black skinny jeans, a red button up, and a thin white tie).
When I listened to Simple Plan, I though I was bad. They had guitars, and drums, and even a bass, it was punk to me. I started changing my clothes, and doing my make up darker, I even pierced my nose, I was hard. Until my older brother Kris came about and halted my false sense of “punk”. One day blasting Simple Plan out of my old lime green boom box he burst in and turned it down, gave me a little chat about “punk” and returned with 6 CDs.
Less Than Jake - “Pezcore”
Sublime - “Bradley and Friends”
Leftover Crack - “Fuck World Trade”
The Sex Pistols - “God Save the Queen”
NoFX - “Pump Up the Valuum”
Anti-Flag - “Underground Network”
Again if it wasn’t for Simple Plan I would never be the person I am today. Which is an underground punk, ska, and reggae loving fool. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t just change completely because I found a new style to swiftly center my focus. I still love pop and the like.
The main focus of this post is that Simple Plan changed my life, I saw them at the Ogden theatre. My brother changed my life with punk. Tomorrow I will be seeing ‘Reel Big Fish vs. The Aqua Bats’ with my big brother, at… the Ogden theatre in Denver, Colorado.
Tomorrow will be an experience more than just an amazing concert. Tomorrow will mean much more to me than I think even myself can fully understand at this moment.
